Matt Lenzie, Founder & Principal Broker
Matt Lenzie founded Merchant Services Cash Advances after more than 25 years arranging commercial finance across the United Kingdom. Over that time he has structured and placed more than £500 million of funding for trading businesses, developers and investors, from secured property facilities to the unsecured, revenue-based products that now fund much of the UK's high street.
Much of that career was spent on the lender's side of the table, which is where the judgement comes from. He knows how a merchant cash advance funder underwrites card turnover: how they read seasonality in your acquirer statements, how they size an advance against monthly card takings, where a factor rate should sit for your sector, and when a holdback percentage is set too high for a business to trade through comfortably.
Every enquiry is read, structured and taken to market by Matt himself. There is no junior desk and no hand-off. Business owners deal directly with the person arranging their funding.
How we work as a merchant cash advance broker
We are a finance arranger and introducer, not a lender. The work is threefold: reading your card takings the way a funder’s underwriter will read them, placing the application with the providers actually writing advances in your sector, and negotiating the two terms that decide whether the deal is any good in practice, the factor rate and the holdback percentage taken from your daily card sales.
There is no junior desk. Every enquiry is read, structured and taken to market by Matt personally, and business owners deal directly with him from the first call to the day the advance lands.
Part of that job is saying no. A merchant cash advance is the right instrument for a card-heavy business with a purpose for the money and the margin to carry a daily split. It is the wrong instrument for a business paid by invoice, for a long payback that a term loan would price far more cheaply, and for anyone already carrying an advance they are struggling to clear. We say so rather than placing the deal anyway.
Editorial standards
Every guide on this site is written and reviewed by the named author, carries its review date, and is checked against how these agreements are actually documented. We do not publish invented case studies or testimonials. Worked examples are always labelled illustrative. Market figures are only used with a named source. Where funders are named, we describe them factually and make no claims about their current criteria or pricing.
The operating entity
Merchant Services Cash Advances is a trading name of Lenzie Consulting Ltd, registered in England and Wales, company number 08174104, registered office Lynch Farm, Kensworth, Dunstable, LU6 3QZ. A merchant cash advance is a purchase of future card receivables, not a loan, and advances to limited companies are unregulated commercial agreements. Where a transaction would require Financial Conduct Authority authorisation, we refer it to a regulated firm.
